Fundraising & Development Manager
Please share a little about you.
I bring on board a rich experience and track record of nearly 14 years in the world of fundraising/resource development and have fundraised for over 25 organizations. I have lived all over Canada (Victoria, Vancouver, Kamloops, Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Halifax, and St. Johns, Newfoundland), in South Korea for 8 years, Australia and have travelled numerous times to North Korea as a photographer. Current photography projects also include the Tar Sands in Alberta, Canada.
Your role at PWB?
I will be responsible for increasing revenue from multiple channels by developing, implementing and evaluating strategies to acquire new donors and manage relationships with existing donors. Inherent in this process is managing the donor cycle from cultivation and solicitation straight through to enhancing the donor experience with creative and innovative strategies.
Why is decolonizing storytelling important to you?
We live in a world with a near-infinite amount of content to consume at our fingertips. Yet, the quality of the material we consume is often manipulated, fabricated or shaped to conform to one world view or another. It is propaganda.
Photography can transform countless perspectives with a single image. Photographers possess the ability to humanize individuals we may never meet, but with whom we share a common trait: we are all deserving of human rights.
Too often, the narrative in society is shaped by only a select handful of powerful individuals. Photography is one vehicle through which we can achieve something that should be simple, but often isn't: the pursuit of truth.
As a professional, I speak with individuals about issues most of us understand, but have never experienced: war, famine, societal collapse, natural disaster, hunger, etc. Yet, I possess the unique ability to place a prospect or donor into the environment I'm discussing. My success has largely come on the backbone of storytelling.
What are you most passionate about?
I work in an industry where we should be putting the needs of others' ahead of our own and I've long been struck by the injustice and arbitrariness of this world. Geopolitical boundaries, in particular, fascinate me and I struggle with this idea that where you're born determines your quality of life and opportunities to thrive. My travels and work have taught me that we have much more in common with one another than we do differences. Human rights are my politics.
