BOARD MEMBER

PWB is currently seeking qualified candidates to join the leadership of our American and Canadian Boards of Directors.  

Time Commitment:  10-20 hours per month
Term: Minimum of 3 years, with quarterly official meetings.

About Photographers Without Borders (PWB)

Photographers Without Borders® (PWB) is a registered non-profit  organization based in Toronto, Canada and is also a 501(c)(3) charity in the United States.

As a member of PWB’s Board of Directors, you will assist in supporting and executing our mission and vision in alignment with our values in partnership with our Executive Director and Executive Team.

Qualifications:

  • Please have senior expertise in one or more of the following competencies: Funding, fundraising, B2B education opportunities, public/media relations, strategic planning, legal, Indigenous-led conservation/rematriation/landback efforts, ethical conservation photography and/or filmmaking, non-profit board governance, digital marketing/technology, partnership development. 

  • You must be passionate about the work we do.

  • In alignment with PWB’s Mission, Vision and Values.

  • Demonstrate no conflicts of interest.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide guidance.

  • Lead a thoughtful and timely annual review process.

  • Lead the board to approve, own, and champion the strategic vision, direction, and plan, ensuring regular monitoring.

  • Lead effort to monitor program effectiveness.

  • Provide clear direction to the Finance Committee to create a process with integrity.

  • Develop a process that is fair and inclusive, that measures skills, accomplishments, and leadership attributes.

  • Develop a board/staff process and design board meetings that allow for robust engagement by the full board throughout.

  • Work together to ensure that the board has what it needs to evaluate programs with a process that is effective and not onerous on staff

  • Build a strong Finance Committee / Staff partnership for building and monitoring the budget, ensuring that the budget and all assumptions are clearly understood by all board members.

  • Define the skills, expertise, and attributes necessary for your board, its mission, and the

    approved strategy.

  • Prepare for and attend mandatory quarterly Board Meetings and Annual General Meeting.

  • Serve as an advocate for the organization and engage in identifying and securing the financial resources and partnerships necessary for the organization to advance its mission. 

  • Leverage connections, networks, and resources to help grow the organization’s capacity and enhance PWB’s public image. 

  • Identify prospective board members when necessary, help recruit and facilitate their onboarding as needed.

  • Review and monitor operational policies, strategic plans and financial reports. 

  • Participate in the approval of the annual budget.

  • s$20, 000 or more fundraising goal per annum per board member. This is not something that is expected to be out of pocket; it can be a result of opening a door or making an introduction.

  • Commitment to PWB’s Mission, Vision, Values, Code of Conduct, Governance and Strategic Plan.
